IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for (444) Gyptis / 2UCAC 36448750 event on 2012 Sep 28, 08:46 UT Visible from Venezuela, Colombia, Central America Summary ------- On 2012 Sep 28 UT, the 193 km diameter asteroid (444) Gyptis will occult a 11.5 mag star in the constellation Gemini for observers along a path across Venezuela, Colombia, Central America. In the case of an occultation, the combined light of the asteroid and the star will drop by 1.8 mag to 13.1 mag (the magnitude of the asteroid) for at most 9.5 seconds. This update is based on UNSO/Flagstaff astrometry for the asteroid kindly provided by Alice Monet, historical astrometry from the MPC files (via AstDys), and the following catalogs for the star position: UCAC.
