IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for (5977) 1992 TH1 / HIP 108649 event on 2012 Aug 20, 18:03 UT Visible from Russia, China, SE Asia, S Africa Summary ------- On 2012 Aug 20 UT, the 12 km diameter asteroid (5977) 1992 TH1 will occult a 7.7 mag star in the constellation Aquarius for observers along a path across Russia, China, SE Asia, S Africa. In the case of an occultation, the combined light of the asteroid and the star will drop by 7.1 mag to 14.8 mag (the magnitude of the asteroid) for at most 1.0 seconds. This update is based on UNSO/Flagstaff astrometry for the asteroid kindly provided by Hugh Harris, historical astrometry from the MPC files (via AstDys), and the following catalogs for the star position: .
