IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for (5) Astraea / 2UCAC 30704767 event on 2008 Jan 03, 04:54 UT Visible from Africa Summary ------- On 2008 Jan 03 UT, the 119 km diameter asteroid (5) Astraea will occult a 12.4 mag star in the constellation Virgo for observers along a path across Africa. In the case of an occultation, the combined light of the asteroid and the star will drop by 0.3 mag to 11.1 mag (the magnitude of the asteroid) for at most 6.0 seconds. This update is based on UNSO/Flagstaff astrometry for the asteroid kindly provided by Alice Monet, historical astrometry from the MPC files (via AstDys), and the following catalogs for the star position: UCAC.
