IOTA/IOTA-ES occultation update for (80) Sappho / TYC 5156-01479-1 event on 2007 Sep 02, 08:12 UT Visible from W USA, Canada Summary ------- On 2007 Sep 02 UT, the 78 km diameter asteroid (80) Sappho will occult a 12.2 mag star in the constellation Aquila for observers along a path across W USA, Canada. In the case of an occultation, the combined light of the asteroid and the star will drop by 0.2 mag to 10.6 mag (the magnitude of the asteroid) for at most 22.2 seconds. This update is based on UNSO/Flagstaff astrometry for the asteroid kindly provided by Alice Monet, TMO astrometry for the asteroid kindly provided by Bill Owen, historical astrometry from the MPC files (via AstDys), and the following catalogs for the star position: UCAC.
